Title:
Indonesia Album, circa 1950
Creator/Contributor:
Online Archive of California
Abstract:
Leather-bound photo album dated circa 1950 ( per dealer estimate). This date would place the photographs as being contemporaneous
with Indonesia's independence from the Netherlands (declared 1945, acknowledged 1949). Contains 57 black and white photographs,
no captions or references to any of Indonesia's many islands. Photographs depict indigenous people (with one westerner in
one photo) engaged in various work activities (rice milling?), in ceremonial dress etc. Various locales, most seemingly rural,
as well as a number of photos of temples, some showing close ups of bas-relief panels. Imagery seems to be Buddhist rather
than Hindu which would likely eliminate Bali as a locale.

1950 (issued)
